Even an early Spring snow storm couldn't keep our enthusiastic group of photographers away. We had another excellent turn-out!
Our April meeting included a couple of new and different items on the agenda. We
featured a review of ten great photographers from the past century, and displayed many of their wonderful images.
We even had a quiz at the end which everyone aced – well maybe not
everyone! The purpose of this session was to demonstrate that great
photographers had very definite and distinctive styles, techniques
and preferred subject matter. This is important for each of us as we
think about our own photographic aspirations and interests.
The meeting featured the first instalment of the What, Why, How segment
where five members took one of their images and told us about it and
what it meant to them. This will be a recurring feature at future
meetings and five new recruits have already volunteered for next
month’s session.
The meeting also
included lots of audio-visual slideshows including a trip to the
island of Kaua’i by Connie Collins, our March outing
to Londale, Forest Mills and Newburgh in search of
rapidly moving water, and our March theme Challenge of Minimalism
& Negative Space. We even touched on the subject of
using Social Media for displaying our images. All in all, it
was a jam packed agenda.
The April theme
challenge is Reflections,
while the May theme challenge was handed down – namely Rebirth,
an appropriate Springtime topic. Interpret these themes as creatively as you wish! As Edward Weston was quoted at our meeting - "Don’t be repressed in your work, dare to experiment, consider any urge, if in a new direction all the better.”
Our outing for April
will occur on Sunday Apr 17th at Menzell Nature
Reserve – located just north of Napanee. We also hope to have a workshop on nighttime sky photography
(the stars) and photopainting sometime around the 20th of
April – we’ll firm up the exact date and time as the weather
forecasts permit.
So lots happening on
the photography front in and around the County. Thanks to all those
who came out to our meeting.
